Introduction to Hindi and Urdu |
Objectives: |
In Hindi and Urdu, the numbers from one to a hundred need to be learnt fairly
much off by heart. There is no systematic structure as in
English, thirty-one, forty-one, fifty-one; all numbers are
unique up to one hundred. Moreover, Hindi
has its own numeral system. Not 1,2,3,4... but rather १,२,३,४...We
needed a simple tool to help the students learn by associating
the sound of the hindi words with the words and numerals for
those numbers.
They had to be able to test themselves and work at their
own pace. |
How it works: |
A Macromedia Flash file was created which included the background image and
placeholders for the numbers. All of the actual
text used in each module is pulled from XML files The sound clips
as well are identified by XML file and are stored in a folder.
By changing the text in the XML files, and the sound clips,
it is easy to add a new set of numbers, without having to
alter the original Flash file. |
