Demetrius* is the digital repository service offered by the ANU.

Demetrius provides a stable, secure and accessible repository for the long-term preservation of digital resources created by members of the ANU community. Not only are the digital resources preserved in Demetrius for long-term access, but they can also be discovered using the Demetrius search engine and easily reused for learning and research purposes.

In addition to providing a window to ANU's digital resources, Demetrius provides simple to use Web-based interfaces that enables the ANU community to upload their digital resources into the repository and interactively manage many aspects of their use, such as access and copyright conditions.

The digital resources stored in Demetrius are organised into 'collections', which are in turn organised into 'communities' (or collection groupings). Thus each organisational unit or research group at the ANU can thematically organise their digital collections and determine access policies and use. There are no upper limits on the number of collections that Demetrius can support, and the ANU community is encouraged to consider Demetrius as the long-term home of their valuable digital resources.

The Demetrius Web site also provides a wide range of useful guidance to the ANU community about building digital collections and their preservation.

Contact details of experienced staff from the Division of Information are provided so that potential contributors can receive guidance and support.

Demetrius is powered by DSpace; an open source digital repository developed by the international DSpace Federation, of which ANU is an active member. For more information about the ANU localisation of DSpace, see the ANU DSpace homepage.
